Since 1977, Vox surveys have been conducted after each federal vote. These opinion surveys are conducted with representative samples of roughly 1,000 eligible voters (700 voters until 1987) and take place during the two or three weeks following the vote. In brief, the focus of these surveys is the interest, motivation, and competence of the citizens in matters relating to voting and politics in general. The principal points covered during interviews include: general political opinions and habits, political and social affinities, degree of understanding of the items put to vote, the various aspects relating to the decision on how to vote on these items, how the individual’s opinion was formed and, finally, the individual’s evaluation of the importance of what is at stake with each item.
If you speak German, French, or Italian, consulting a questionnaire is a good way to get a clearer and more detailed idea of what the Vox surveys are. For example, you could examine the questionnaire concerning the February 8, 2004 vote: Questionnaire Vox 82 : french, german, italian.
In addition, the technical manual accompanying the same survey is also a good source of complementary information, first of all for this particular survey, but also for the Voxes in general (at least for the latest ones). This document is however only available in German: Technischer Bericht Vox 82.
The data of the original Voxes are archived at FORS and can be ordered under the usual conditions. As the data of the first 14 surveys are no longer readable by current softwares, available surveys start with the Vox 15, dedicated to the vote of 14 june 1981, and cover almost all the votes that follow (list of available Voxes: french, german). It should be noted however that these data are embargoed for one year from the date of the vote. On the other hand, documentation is often rudimentary since it is often limited to the questionnaire. Beginning with Vox 71, a technical manual completes the documentation.
Because the Voxes have not yet been systematically assessed, FORS disclaims any liability for errors that could be present in this material.
Seit 1977 werden in der Schweiz in den zwei bis drei Wochen nach jeder Volksabstimmung die sogenannten Vox-Umfragen mit einer repräsentativen Stichprobe von ca. 1000 stimmberechtigten Personen durchgeführt (700 Personen bis 1987). Der Kernpunkt dieser Umfrage sind das Interesse, die Motivation und die Kenntnisse der Bürger und Bürgerinnen betreffend den Abstimmungsvorlagen und der Politik generell. Die während der standardisierten Befragung aufgebrachten Hauptpunkte betreffen demzufolge die politischen Meinungen und Verhaltensweisen, aber auch die Partei- und Vereinszugehörigkeit, den Kenntnisgrad der Vorlagen, die verschiedenen Aspekte des Wahlentscheids, die Meinungsbildung und die Einschätzung der Wichtigkeit von jeder Vorlage.

Die Datensätze der ursprünglichen Vox-Umfragen sind bei FORS archiviert, wo sie unter den gewöhnlichen Bedingungen bestellt werden können. Da die Daten der ersten 14 Umfragen durch aktuelle Software nicht mehr lesbar sind, beginnen die zur Verfügung stehenden Vox-Umfragen mit der Vox 15 zur Volksabstimmung vom 14. Juni 1981 und decken praktisch alle Abstimmungen ab diesem Datum ab (Liste der zur Verfügung stehenden Vox-Umfragen). Beachten Sie bitte, dass für die Daten ein einjähriges Embargo vom Abstimmungstermin an besteht. Für die frühen Vox-Umfragen ist die Dokumentation häufig sehr rudimentär, da diese oft nur den Fragebogen enthält. Ab Vox 71 steht jedoch zusätzlich ein kompletter technischer Bericht zur Verfügung. Da die Vox-Umfragen bisher noch keiner systematischen Kontrolle unterzogen worden sind, lehnt FORS jede Verantwortung im Fall von Fehlern in diesem Material ab.
Depuis 1977, un sondage d’opinion nommé Vox est réalisé, après chaque votation fédérale, sur un échantillon représentatif d’environ 1000 personnes ayant le droit de vote (700 jusqu’en 1987), et ceci dans les deux à trois semaines qui suivent la votation. De manière résumée, ce sont l’intérêt, les motivations et les compétences des citoyens et des citoyennes en matière de votation et, plus largement en matière de politique, qui sont au centre de ce sondage. Les principaux points abordés lors d’un interview standard concernent les opinions et les comportements politiques en général ainsi que les affinités politiques et associatives, le degré de connaissance des objets soumis à votation, les différents aspects relatifs à la décision de vote pour ces objets, les moyens par lesquels la personne interrogée se forge une opinion et, finalement, son appréciation de l’importance des enjeux de chaque objet.
La consultation d’un questionnaire constitue un bon moyen de se faire une idée plus précise et plus détaillée des sondages Vox. A titre d’exemple, on peut prendre connaissance du questionnaire relatif à la votation du 8 février 2004 : Questionnaire Vox 82 : Français, Allemand, Italien.
D’autre part, le manuel technique accompagnant le même sondage constitue une source d’informations complémentaires, tout d’abord pour ce sondage en particulier, mais aussi pour les Vox en général (du moins pour les Vox les plus récentes). Ce document n’est cependant disponible qu’en allemand : Technischer Bericht Vox 82.
Les jeux de données des sondages Vox originaux sont archivés à FORS, où ils peuvent être commandés aux conditions habituelles. Les données des 14 premiers sondages n’étant plus lisibles par les logiciels actuels, les sondages disponibles commencent avec la Vox 15 consacré à la votation du 14 juin 1981 et couvrent presque toutes les votations suivantes (consulter la liste des Vox disponibles). Il faut noter cependant que ces données sont soumises à un embargo d’une année à partir de la date de la votation. D’autre part, la documentation est souvent rudimentaire puisqu’elle se réduit le plus souvent au questionnaire. A partir de la Vox 71, un manuel technique complète la documentation. Comme les Vox n’ont, pour le moment, pas fait l’objet d’un contrôle systématique, FORS décline toute responsabilité par rapport aux erreurs que pourraient présenter ce matériel.
