Survey translation
Survey translation and measurement equivalence
In multi-language surveys, a necessary condition to obtain comparable measurement is to assure the equivalence of all the questions in all languages, both in meaning and in response scales. The research group addresses issues around the notion of equivalence, such as interviewer departures from a written script in telephone surveys to make questions more suitable for oral transmission (experiences from Switzerland), and for scale equivalence how to assess translated categories that fall on the response continuum, and how to evaluate the equivalence of distributions between different translated terms within and across cultural subgroups.
