Keynote speakers
We propose three plenary sessions. The keynote speakers and the titles of their presentations are:
- > Prof. David A. Schum (Systems Engineering and Operations Research Department, George Mason University, Fairfax, United States):
The Science of evidence. - > Mr. Graham Jackson (Consultant Forensic Scientist, 'Advance Forensic
Science' and University of Abertay Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom):
The nature of forensic science opinions. - > Prof. William C. Thompson (The Department of Criminology, Law and Society, University of California, Irvine, United States):
Painting the target around the arrow: misuse of statistics to characterize DNA evidence.
The three keynote papers will be discussed by invited commentators.
- > Prof. Stephen Fienberg (Department of Statistics, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, United States) and Dr. Ian Evett (Forensic Science Service, London, United Kingdom) comment on Prof. Schum's presentation.
- > Professors Colin Aitken (Centre for Forensic Statistics and Legal Reasoning, The University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Scotland) and Bruce Weir (Department of Biostatistics, University of Washington, United States) discuss Mr. Jackson's paper.
- > Prof. David Kaye (College of Law, Arizona State University, Tempe, United States) and Prof. Julia Mortera (Dipartimento di Economia, Università Roma Tre, Roma, Italy) comment on Prof. Thompson's talk.
Poster session
The poster session will be held in the hall of the Génopode building on Thursday, 21st August, from 3:30 pm onwards.
Maximum poster size: A0 portrait.
Best Posters Award : The Scientific Committee will select the two best posters based on the originality of the results and their potential impact, as well as on the quality of the presentation.
The awards will be presented during the gala evening.
