ArcGIS 10.4 installation

ArcGIS Desktop 10.4

This installs all ArcGIS modules and extensions (version ArcInfo)

  1. Browse to \\SoftBoss\soft\Applications\SIG\ESRI\ArcGIS 10.4
  2. Double-click on Setup.exe and follow instructions
  3. I strongly advise you NOT to install ArcGIS in "Program Files" but in a directory whose path contains no space. E.g. C:\Progs\ArcGIS. Click on "Browse" to select a custom directory.
  4. Same advice for Python. E.g. C:\Progs\Python
  5. Let's go !
  6. After a while, once the installation is finished, you have to proceed to the authorisation. ArcGIS Administrator should be opened automatically.
  7. Select "ArcInfo (Concurrent Use)"
  8. Select "Define a License Manager now"
  9. Type "alice.unil.ch" (without the ")
  10. Press OK
  11. Press OK again

Using ArcGIS out of the UNIL network

Disconnect from network

When you are not connected to the UNIL network, you can still use the Arc ArcGIS, by borrowing licenses. The licenses will work for 30 days, after which they will automatically be brought back to the pool. You will have to borrow them again if you want to continue working disconnected. To do so, follow those steps, BEFORE leaving the network:

  1. Open the Start menu and launch Programmes/ArcGIS/ArcGIS Administrator
  2. In the left panel, click on "Desktop"
  3. Among the radio buttons, select "ArcEditor (Concurrent use)"
  4. In the left panel, click on "Borrow/Return"
  5. Check any extension you want to borrow.
  6. Click on "Apply"

Reconnect to network

Once you are back on the unil network, and if you want to use the full capabilities of ArcInfo, follow those steps:

  1. Open the Start menu and launch Programmes/ArcGIS/ArcGIS Administrator
  2. In the left panel, click on "Borrow/Return"
  3. Uncheck all the extensions.
  4. Click on "Apply"
  5. In the left panel, click on "Desktop"
  6. Among the radio buttons, select "ArcInfo (Concurrent use)"
