Processing of the contained protein may take place in secretory granules.

external side of plasma membrane

The side of the plasma membrane that is opposite to the side that faces the cytoplasm.

cell surface

The external part of the cell wall and/or plasma membrane.

endomembrane system

A collection of membranous structures involved in transport within the cell. The main components of the endomembrane system are endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi bodies, vesicles, cell membrane and nuclear envelope. pore complex

Any small opening in a membrane that allows the passage of gases and/or liquids.
