HISTIAIA

No.: 536
d=14 mm

Bronze, 3./2. Jhdt.v.Chr.
Kopf des jugendlichen Herakles im Löwenskalp rechts.
Rs: [IΣ] (im Feld oben). Kopf eines Rindes en face; im Feld links ΛO (aufwärts), im Feld rechts Φ.
1,77 g. St. 1.

Although it could be claimed that this is a barbarous imitation or even that it is not a Histiaia issue at all, it has been included here because of its resemblance to the previous coins. It is quite likely that Histiaia, as well as several other mainland Greek cities, struck small volume and sporadic autonomous bronze issues well into the second and in some cases even the first century B.C.
