Au premier plan, sur un sentier, des militaires à pied ou en selle. Deux chevaux tractant un canon. Le long du chemin, une falaise au bas de laquelle s'écoule le Cluson. Au second plan, la forteresse de Fenestrelle. De l'autre côté de la vallée, forêt et végétation. Montagnes en arrière-plan.
