Au centre, une table glaciaire, formée par un bloc erratique dont l'ombre a évité la fonte de la glace sous lui alors qu'elle a fondu autour. Un homme portant un autre sur son dos pour qu'il puisse étudier le rocher. D'autres hommes tout autour, discutant. À l'arrière-plan, des montagnes et d'autres tables glaciaires.
