Modeling gradient formation in the fission yeast
Revision as of 18:57, 28 April 2015 by Sbprm2015 1 (talk | contribs)
Background Molecular gradients are widely used in biological systems to convey positional information. In fission yeast the Pom1 gradient is used to determine the positioning and timing of the cell division.
Aim: The aim is to mathematically model the Pom1 gradient formation, compute the precision that can be expected from such a gradient and compare it to the precision that can be actually observed in fission yeast cells
Mathematical Tools Partial differential equations, statistics. The R software will be used
Biological aspects The students will learn aspects of cell cycle control in fission yeast and get acquainted with the notion of robustness in biological systems
