Background

Daniel Marbach joined the CBG in 2013 as a senior researcher. Previously, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with Prof. Manolis Kellis (2009-2013). Daniel's background is in computer science, he obtained his Ph.D at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) under the direction of Prof. Dario Floreano in 2010.

Research

Daniel's research is centered on:

  • (1) Developing computational methods to unravel molecular networks from large-scale data
  • (2) Leveraging these networks to improve our understanding of genetic variants and disease mechanisms

Daniel has a strong interest in open, collaborative approaches to tackle these problems. He is an affiliate member of DREAM and Sage Bionetworks, where he is leading a community-based challenge (the DREAM network inference challenge). By bringing together teams of researchers working on the same problem, Daniel seeks to leverage the "wisdom of crowds" to accelerate biological and biomedical discoveries.
